There are tons of hoity-toity shops there that don't appeal to me in the least, but the setting is beautiful. It might be my favorite place on the planet to just sit down with a cool drink and relax. Of course, for me part of the draw is nostalgia - I've been going there with my family since I was about 7 years old, so there are a lot of great memories tied to that place.

I've always wanted to take a boat trip to Daufuskie Island - my parents and grandparents have done that trip and really enjoyed it. The island is across Calibogie Sound from the Harbour Town pier and you can only access it by boat. I think you can get information about this from one of the kiosks on the pier. There's also kayak tours, jet ski rentals, and parasailing all right there from the pier.

HHI is full of bike paths, so we always enjoy utilizing those. South Beach Marina is also kind of a cool place to go - you can grab some food or ice cream at The Salty Dog Cafe, and then check out either/both of the Salty Dog T-shirt shops there. The larger store has several scarlet macaws that they take outside on nice weather days, and the smaller store has two smaller birds (Ernest and Roscoe) that are older than I am. My daughter always enjoys seeing the birds. There are a couple of other restaurants there, and you can also charter boat/fishing/kayak trips there. There's also a tackle shop there.

Food-wise, now that there are young kids in the mix, we have pared back on eating out frequently when we visit HHI, but some of our old favorites were The Crazy Crab (there are two locations - the one at Harbour Town stays pretty busy), The Old Oyster Factory, The Black Marlin, The Quarterdeck (also at Harbour Town). Also, the best steak I've ever had in my life was at Old Fort Pub, but I think I recently read that it is closing down very soon (if not already closed).
